A renovation of a humble weatherboard restaurant on the Surf Coast of Victoria. Studio Hallihan undertook extensive spatial planning of the existing footprint and exterior layout, which sought to improve service function and provide ample seating options for both locals and visitors.
With a focus on place, custom joinery offers cosy corners for brisk wind-swept days. The off-form concrete, tiered seating allows diners to sprawl in the occasional sun-drenched moment and take in the sea view beyond.
The interior space is warmed by deeply layered and considered materials. Bespoke banquette seating in a rich, olive velvet with brass framed oak and cork tables, sits below a moss green, high-gloss ceiling and hand sewn oatmeal linen valance. Natural sisal clad walls create texture, and the Italian handmade scalloped ceramic lighting adds whimsy and intimacy to the interior.
